character flaw.

What is addiction counselling?

Addiction counselling explores the patterns, histories, and unmet needs that drive substance use and compulsive behaviour — not just the behaviour itself. We do not start from shame. We start from curiosity about what is actually happening underneath.

Harm reduction and abstinence both welcomed You set the goal. We do not require abstinence before starting — or at all. We meet you where you are and work toward what you actually want.
Substances and behavioural addiction We work with alcohol, drugs, cannabis, gambling, sex, screens, food, and other compulsive patterns — addressing the underlying function, not just the form.
Shame-free, honest, and direct We do not moralize or lecture. We are honest about what we see — and compassionate about why it is there. Shame is not a tool we use, ever.

Addiction Counselling — Ancrage | S3: How It Works

A process that goes
deeper than the habit

We do not just work on behaviour. We work on the full picture — what drives it, what maintains it, and what is needed to shift it for good.

Free first call

A confidential 15-minute conversation to understand your situation and answer your questions — no intake, no commitment, no expectations.

Understanding what's underneath

We explore what the substance or behaviour is doing for you — the pain it manages, the needs it meets, the history that shaped it. Judgment-free.

Building new footing

We develop real, practical alternatives — ways to meet those needs that don't cost you your health, relationships, or sense of self.

Living differently

Change that holds is built gradually, honestly, and with room for setbacks. We stay in it with you — through the hard days as much as the progress ones.

"We don't believe anyone is too far gone. We have seen people change who had given up on themselves. That is why this work matters to us."

Addiction Counselling — Ancrage | S4: Our Approach

Methods that work for real people

We draw on multiple evidence-informed approaches — not a single ideology or program. What we use depends on who you are, what you are carrying, and what your situation actually calls for.

Motivational interviewing

We help you surface your own reasons to change — not ours. This is proven the most effective starting point because it creates internal drive, not compliance.

Harm reduction

We meet you where you are — without requiring abstinence as a starting point. Reducing harm is valid progress, and we support whatever goal you are working toward.

Trauma-informed care

Most addiction has roots in unprocessed experience. We bring trauma awareness into every session — not to dwell there, but to understand what the substance has been doing for you.

Relapse as information

We do not treat relapse as failure. We treat it as information about what still needs attention. No shame, no restart — just an honest look at what happened and what comes next.

We do not believe in ceilings. People we have worked with who had given up on themselves found a way through. That is why we do this work.
Addiction Counselling — Ancrage | S5: Recognize Yourself
A quiet, grounded moment — addiction counselling support

You may recognize
yourself here

People arrive at this work from many different places — some in crisis, some functioning on the outside but struggling inside. Wherever you are, we start from there.

People often tell us...

You do not need a diagnosis or to hit a specific low point. If your relationship with a substance or behaviour is causing you problems — in any part of your life — that is enough reason to seek support. We do not rank suffering.

That is incredibly common — and it does not mean you cannot change. It usually means the root of what is driving the behaviour hasn't been addressed yet. That is exactly what we focus on.

That is a valid starting point. We work with harm reduction goals — not just abstinence. What matters is that you are moving toward something you want, at a pace and in a way that is realistic for you right now.

We do not moralize. We do not lecture. We are direct and honest — but never shaming. We are more interested in understanding why you do what you do than in making you feel bad about it.

It is never too late. Relapse is part of most recovery journeys — not a disqualifier from support. We treat it as information, not failure. Coming back after a relapse often leads to the most meaningful breakthroughs.
